We didn't have to leave until later in the afternoon so Russell and Mandy suggested we go to the Griffith's Observatory. It sits at the top of a huge hill. Unfortunately it was very foggy that day or I bet we could have seen for miles.

The kids had fun checking out the different exhibits. One of the favorites was being able to touch the moon and mars. The moon is smooth and mars is bumpy if anyone wanted to know :) There were also exhibits on why the tides go in and out, (something we had tried to explain but this did a much better job), why lunar and solar eclipse happen, why seasons occur, what the conditions are on other planets, and lots more.

Unfortunately this was the only telescope we could look through, the really big one was not open.

Chris had commented the whole trip about the plants in California. He thought they were so great. We had not gotten a picture of him with plants so thought we better take the opportunity. When we first got to California Chris kept saying how much he would love to live there and how everything was perfect. I think by the end of the week he was excited to go home to Utah though. We will come back to visit the next chance we get!

The trip home was pretty great. The kids thought it was awesome to be able to eat McDonald's in the airport and the plane was not so slow to board because it was very uncrowded. The plane was only 1/4 full or so. People moved from seat to seat to get better views, the crew was less stressed and gave us extra whatever we wanted, and most importantly Rhys fell asleep for most of the trip. What a fun vacation we had! So glad we could spend it with some of the greatest people in our lives. Can't wait until next time.
On a funny side note. Rhys loved wondering the airport and met a new little friend. We were talking to this new friend's mom for a minute and ended up finding out that this little boy's name was also Rhys, spelled the same way. We were surprised to find another kid with the same spelling of the name. Apparently it's all the rage now :)
